Sponsoring Your Spouse, Partner, or Dependent Children
If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, you can sponsor your spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner, or dependent children to become permanent residents of Canada. To be eligible, you must be able to support them financially and ensure they do not need social assistance from the government.
Steps
- Check your eligibility.
- Submit the sponsorship application.
- Provide necessary biometrics and other documentation.
- Wait for the application to be processed.
Sponsoring Parents and Grandparents
The Parents and Grandparents Program allows you to bring your parents and grandparents to Canada as permanent residents. Due to high demand, there is a limited number of applications accepted each year. To participate, you need to submit an interest to sponsor form during the designated intake period.
Key Requirements
- Meet the income requirements to support the sponsored individuals.
- Submit a complete sponsorship application if invited.
Sponsoring Other Relatives
In very specific situations, you can sponsor other relatives such as orphaned siblings, nieces, nephews, or grandchildren. You can also sponsor one relative of any age if you do not have any other eligible relatives.
Eligibility Criteria
- The relative must be related to you by blood or adoption.
- You must not have other living relatives who could be sponsored instead.
Special Programs for Victims of Family Violence
If your spouse, partner, or dependent child is experiencing abuse, there are special provisions to help them stay in Canada safely. This includes options to apply for permanent residence independently from their abuser.
